On Saturday, October 3rd, Tri-Valley Secondary School Band members performed in three separate community events, moving and resetting truckloads of equipment at each venue throughout the day.
The day began with packing as many musicians as safely possible onto a hay wagon for the Daniel Pierce Library’s Giant Pumpkin Party Parade! Students performed a dozen classic marches and rock/pop tunes throughout the course of the parade to the fairgrounds.
Immediately following the parade, the entire High School Band gathered for a rousing concert at the fairgrounds pavilion to kick-off the Pumpkin Party festivities. They opened the concert with the powerful classic, “Malagueña”, followed by the dramatic Native American inspired composition, “Yonaguska”. They then performed a piece dedicated to American soldiers returning from foreign wars called; “Homeward Bound”. Finally, they concluded the concert with the ultimate closer, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, by the rock band; Queen. They pulled out all the stops and even brought the raging guitars!
Worthy of note, this concert was prepared in only three weeks, after being away on summer break for two months. When many band programs are just getting their feet back under them, rebuilding their range, endurance and technique, our students are already performing a full concert!
Following the concert, most of the percussion, instruments, stands and chairs were packed up and transferred back to the school, but the rest was moved to the Iatauro Sports Complex just in time for the Pep Band to play the National Anthem, and keep everyone’s spirits up for the next two hours at the home football game against Rockland School District. After performing a couple dozen pep songs, a full community concert, and a parade-worth of several songs over the course of six hours, several students then helped transfer all the instruments, chairs, and equipment used throughout the day up a flight of stairs to the Band room.
We couldn’t be more proud or appreciative of the incredible efforts of our Band students! Mr. Weyant would like to also thank Mr. Pacht, for helping him move the concert equipment to the fairgrounds the night before, and for playing along with the low brass section in the concert! We also greatly appreciate Mr. Botsford and several students for helping move equipment after the concert.
The Tri-Valley Music Department is proud to provide the “Soundtrack of Life” for our school and community throughout the year. They will be bringing more cheer to the homecoming Pep Rally and Football Game, followed by music selections at our Veterans Day Assembly. As the holiday season approaches, they will be hosting the Zone 9 Area All State Music Festival, where some of the best musicians in New York State will perform world class music during two concerts November 21st. Soon after, you will hear our Band students providing holiday cheer at the Town Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Celebration. Finally, you won’t want to miss our traditional Winter Concerts in December, or our Jazz Band performance at the Government Center for their Holiday performance series!
